If New York fashion week is an invitation only club, than the Mercedes Benz Star Lounge is the inner sanctum. Interior designer Wesley Cadle was tasked for the third time with designing the space that plays host to VIPs like Sarah Jessica Parker, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce when they are in-between shows at the Mercedes Benz Lincoln Center tents. This season Cadle sourced inspiration from several fashion sources. One was Coco Chanel. Another was Camilla Parker Bowles’ fascinators.
Cadle told us: “I am always looking for up-and-coming furniture designers. I found Christopher Guy who does furniture in this great Hollywood Regency style, with beautiful textiles, curves. We included a screen that was inspired by a Coco Chanel cuff.” Then there is the draped ceiling in the space that has a particularly unlikely inspiration, Camilla Parker Bowles’ fascinators.
“I want you to feel like you are walking into a 1940s movie complete with satin, curves, angles,” Cadle said. “But I wanted to juxtapose that with softer, modern elements. We used contemporary art from The Pace Gallery, so we bringing Hollywood Regency into 2012.”
Cadle shared his tips for getting the modern Hollywood Regency look in your own home. “We used this shiny plexiglass floor, which created this incredible drama…shiny finishes really help to add glamour.” Another tip is texture. “We used a faux mink throw…necklaces as accessories…lots of interesting details,” said Cadle, the type of accents that are easy to mimic in your own spaces.
Cadle shared that his greatest source of satisfaction comes when guests tell him, “Oh my god, I want to live here!” Well, we are ready to move in.
